Lace Front Bonding

Lace systems are very delicate and require a slightly different bonding approach. The following techniques have proven to prolong the longevity of the lace by facilitating easier clean-up.

Before Starting:

Make sure both surfaces to be bonded (scalp and system) are clean, dry and free of ALL grease and oil. Remove any stubble from the area of scalp to be bonded.

When finished, you should avoid washing hair for 24 hours.

Items Required:

  • Scalp Protector
  • Ultra Hold or Mity-Tite
  • Application Brush
  • Eye brow pencil
  • Hair clip

Instructions

Technique 1

  1. Apply a thin layer of Scalp Protector on the lace and scalp.
  2. Select your preferred method of attachment (Full or Perimeter Bond) and apply a thin layer of adhesive to the entire scalp or perimeter EXCEPT the front hairline. DO NOT apply adhesive to the front of your scalp (approx. 2" back from the front hairline and temples).
  3. Coat the underside of the system with a thin layer of adhesive (Second Skin™ and Gel Flex™ ONLY). IMPORTANT: Do not apply adhesive to the lace front.
  4. Allow each surface to dry separately for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Join both surfaces together by positioning the front of the system in place and then roll the system back over the scalp.
  6. Press firmly together.
  7. Using a light coloured eyebrow pencil, trace the contour of the lace by making a few dots approx. 1/8" in front of the front edge of the lace.
  8. Now clip the lace front back, securing it to the top of your head with a hair clip.
  9. Brush adhesive (approx. 2" back from the front hairline) down to the dots, but do not cover the dots.
  10. Wipe the dots off your forehead.
  11. Allow adhesive to dry for 3-5 minutes.
  12. When the adhesive is dry, gently bring the lace front forward over the adhesive. Using the flat edge of a comb, press the lace down.

Technique 2

  1. Apply a thin layer of Scalp Protector on the lace and scalp.
  2. Take a piece of mild tape and place it in the middle of your system.
  3. Spray a light mist of alcohol on the tape and to your scalp where the tape will be. This will allow you to align the system before the adhesive on the tape takes hold.
  4. Align the system and allow the alcohol to briefly dry before pressing firmly down on the tape to get a decent hold.
  5. Follow steps 7-12 in Technique 1 above.
  6. Remove the tape in the middle of the system and clip or fold the system forward.
  7. Using a handheld mirror, apply a thin layer of adhesive to the remaining area of scalp (top, back and sides if using a full bond or around the perimeter for perimeter bonding).
  8. Allow to dry for 3-5 minutes and then carefully fold the back of the system down onto the adhesive.

Tips

  1. If any adhesive remains on the scalp below the lace, clean with MHD Remove™, but be careful not do get any on the lace
